Peter Miller
1938-2021

Peter Miller was fascinated with the history of the Deerfield/Greenfield/Montague area all his life.  At the age of 10 he was riding his bicycle to Deerfield to visit the interesting sites in the village and learning as much as he could about them.  The Chapins, the Coltons, and the Pynchons were his ancestors. Even though he moved away for a period of time, he was physically and emotionally connected to this region, and the historical societies have all benefited from his  enthusiasm for research and conservation of  materials.

“It’s critical that the collections and archives, including photos and maps, are preserved and shared.  That’s why I included PVMA in my will.”

He had been an active member of PVMA since 1968 and he remembered well working with  late former President Mimi Miller and the late former Librarian, David Proper, who for 25 years oversaw the extensive collections at the Memorial Libraries. Peter said in 2020:  “I love PVMA.  In my case, I don’t have children, so I am directing my planned giving to PVMA’s needs.”

“I have been fascinated with the history of this region all my life …I love PVMA and the work that they do.”

Peter Miller (1938-2021), Author, collector (especially postcards) and long time supporter of PVMA, in 2020

Peter had been a frequent donor to the Museum and to the Library for decades.  His focus was on how to ensure that photo archives, maps, etc., are preserved and maintained.   Peter knew that the curation and the resources available through PVMA and the Memorial Libraries will provide that assurance.
